Henri Bergson explains in his An Introduction to Metaphysics, "there are two profoundly different ways of grasping a thing: we either turn about it or enter into it". Through 'intuitive vision' I strive to enter into the physical world in a way that allows my work to become a revelation rather than an exposure. Freedom from the blinders of perception makes possible active contemplation and a disciplined concentration that reveal the sublime higher simplicity of 'things'. This is not a gift from the senses, but springs from the effacement of the time/space experience. To pierce the veil of the known and enter into the unknown, the artist must follow the advice of the ancient Chinese writer on art, Chuang-Tzu:

The painter takes off his clothes and sits cross-legged.
