My studio practice combines abstract and representational imagery. I am interested in how narratives emerge when figurative elements combine with structure and color, in how bodies convey emotion through gesture and movement. Working between abstraction and figuration allows for ambiguity or surprise in a finished painting.
Drawings often begin with observation and develop into material experiments with a range of marks and surfaces. Memory and imagination, or an intuitive response to experience, are ways of beginning a painting. When working abstractly, color and structure are primary elements.
