Judy Southerland
History Painting for a Small Town
A collection of people surrounds us as we grow, and the remaining residue, along with material loose ends and unfinished business in the studio, coalesced in a series of oval paintings drawn from the legacy of portraiture. Following that lead, text became a kickstart to visual musings on a place where words are primary in translating experience, but images have power to reveal secrets and become an antidote to corrupted stories and games.
