The Politics of the Gaze
When does empathy become exploitation? Large-scale portraits of the people who live and work in Baltimore’s troubled North Avenue and Charles Street corridor ask viewers to consider this question, as well as their own place in the photographic transaction, in a provocative new exhibit that explores the perilous space in which contemporary documentary photographs are made.
