WITHOUT WORDS

Freda Lee-McCann

Curated by William Carroll

October 1st - October 25th, 2025

Three Friends By Freda Lee-McCann

A 15th-century poem on plum blossoms by Chu Yun-ming inspired my new work. The poem speaks about renewal and hope. In response, I am experimenting with calligraphy that departs from traditional rules: the characters no longer carry intrinsic meaning, yet they preserve the grace and rhythm of their forms. This approach gives me the freedom to delight in the beauty of the strokes themselves, and through them, to express my joy and hope for the future.

S*** HAPPENS

Langley Spurlock

An asteroid upends life on Earth. Melting ice sinks nearly half of Europe.
A powdered bug
turns the world a bright new red. The second bomb drops, leading to a curious peace.
Things happen. And things are never the same again.
As if on hinges, time flows in zigs and zags large and small. Using photocollages, aluminum prints, sculpture and a limited-edition folio, artist and writer illuminate futures past.

NOT QUITE OUT OF THE WOODS

Wayne Paige

Curated by Iza Thomas and Robert Cwiok

October 1st - October 25th, 2025

A Need to be Oblivious by Wayne Paige

Since 1997, I’ve often retreated to a black and white graphic world of duality, sprinkled with social commentary and Dreamscape imagery, akin to a life inside an inkwell. However, recent events, including the pandemic and economic and social upheaval, nearly overwhelmed me, causing me to swim frantically within the well. To cope with this sensory overload and apply it to my art, I decided it was time to take a step back, delve deeper, and draw more inspiration from these events, along with observations from nature. This led to a series of drawings, in which I hope to capture the ramifications.

Until recently, my ink drawings depicted mountains, waterways, and woodlands populated by bipedal life forms engaged in unforeseen events. Gradually, these woodland creatures and other entities have taken over the landscape, introducing spirits, otherworldly beings, and perceived conspiracies. These new elements have broadened the narrative, keeping it aligned with my focus on creating art inspired by conflict, dreams, and humor.
