Since 2002 my husband Jim Duffy and I have been spending our weekends at a log cabin on a small pond in Rappahannock County, Virginia. We usually drive there on Fridays from our house in Maryland, a few blocks from the DC line. Within 30 minutes of arriving I can feel my body begin to relax as the tensions of our current world take a back seat to nature.
Please join me on a visit to this special place.

A simple bowl, scuffed and scratched, but still reflective, water amplifying the shine and carrying ephemeral branches, flowers and leaves.

Fading Traces
Judy Bonderman
Curated by Robert Cwiok and Iza Thomas
May 20th - June 13th, 2026
In this series of faded and blended images, I’m imagining the impact of severe drought on Africa’s elephants and trees. As the iconic elephants face starvation and dehydration, they forage for water by stripping the bark of the trees. Already stressed from lack of water, the large trees, including the majestic Baobab, cannot recover. The original raw photos were taken in Botswana and South Africa in 2024.
